Contacting Mrs. Meister-
Email: [email protected] for regular communication needs that can be answered in a timely manner (usually within 24 hours).
Cell phone: My number will be given to each of you for communication needs that must be answered immediately. Yes, I text!
Notes in the agenda for communication are not the best way to contact me, however, if you write a note, please have your child show it to me.
Our Story-Our story is told using a tool called Dojo. It allows us to share privately photos and information about the classroom and the students. Please connect with this app or page to be a part of the loop.
Attendance-Our learning day starts immediately upon entering the classroom. Children quickly unpack and complete seatwork that is very valuable to their learning. Math concepts are taught first thing in the morning, so if your child is late, they miss a lot. Please make every effort to get your children to school on time and ready to learn.
Agendas and red folders-Your child will be writing their homework duties in their agenda daily. Please check it and sign it. Your child’s red folder also needs to be checked daily. Please remove papers from the red folder each day and return only what needs to come back to school. Usually just homework and forms need to be returned.
Community Snack-Please sign up for 2 weeks in which you could purchase snacks for our class. Not only does this ensure each child a snack each day, but it also strengthens our sense of community. Great snack ideas are pretzels, granola bars, breakfast bars, crackers, grahams, fruit leathers, fruit cups, Go-gerts, bananas or cuties (small oranges). Snacks need to be individually packaged at the factory. Please do not send items such as chips, cakes or cookies.
Water Bottles-Please send a water bottle with your child everyday. I ask that you do not freeze these because they sweat and get the desk tops and papers wet. Also large ice chunks in water bottles can be noisy and distracting.
Sweaters-Please send a sweater to school with your child. All sweaters or sweatshirts need to be labeled with your last name. On cold mornings, children need to have on sweatshirts or jackets. I will enforce this rule for my students, even if they say they are "not cold".
Dress code-Please make yourself familiar with the dress code in the student handbook. Note that sweatshirts, jackets and sweaters may not have a hood.
Birthdays-Please do not send in treats for your child’s birthday. Our wellness policy does not allow us to serve them. A suggestion for parents who would like to do something special for the event would be to donate a favorite book to the school or classroom library. You could write a dedication in the front cover to remember the special day.
Lunch Money and Ordering-If you are sending money in for lunch, please put it in an envelope or baggie with your child’s name and grade marked clearly on it.
Volunteers-Yes, you may volunteer in the classroom. Please let me know when you are available. The Catholic Diocese of Phoenix requires that all adults who volunteer must have taken Safe Environment Training and keep it updated yearly. This includes field trip chaperones.
Homework-Your child will have homework every school night. The homework will take 60 minutes or more per night. Students should also be reading each night in addition to their homework. If the child is not getting their classwork finished at school this may also become homework. Other long at-home projects will be assigned as needed.
Vocabulary/Spelling Lists-We will be using the Sadlier Vocabulary Workshop. New words will be introduced every other week with a spelling test on the first Friday and a vocabulary test on the second Friday.
Behavior- God created us good, and therefore; we are intrinsically good. It is my expectation that the children will follow the class and school rules. Sometimes we make mistakes and sometimes we make poor choices. It happens to everyone, and it will happen to your child. If I need your support with your child’s behavior, I will contact you. If you have questions or concerns about your child’s behavior, please feel free to ask me.
